Life can be challenging
Let's work together in meeting these challenges!
I am a Master’s qualified Educationalist with an Advanced Diploma and Graduate Certificate in Holistic Counselling, Artistic Therapies and experience and training in several areas of Behavioural Management. I have been part of a Crisis Intervention Team whilst working in schools, have participated in Functional Behaviour Analysis (FBA) investigations, organized intervention strategies and Individual Behaviour Support Plans as well as undertaken studies in ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) for students identified with ASD. I have participated in the FRIENDS and FUN FRIENDS programmes, a programme which supports development of resilience skills to assist children handle stress and anxiety. I have run Grief and Loss Programmes, Gifted and Talented, Literacy, Numeracy Programmes for parents and teachers, Parenting programmes for parents/carers. My thesis on Boys' Literacy and my Masters of Education - Special Education enabled me to see first-hand the struggles some children encountered in their everyday schooling. This led to the development of the 'Chatting Children' Oral Language Programme of which I was a team member. There have been several Social Skills development programmes I have coached and also devised my own emotional skills development programme – BEARS (Building Emotional and Resilience Skills) and trained in the Emotional Literacy programme. This programme is perfect for the classroom setting and I am happy to assist any teacher or school who may be interested in this.
Being passionate about helping others help themselves and understanding all too well the challenges faced by siblings, teachers, parents and families in caring for children, especially those with complex needs is what drives me to support those in need. Issues such as Behavioural support, Social and Emotional regulation, Confidence and Resilience building, Grief and Loss, Managing Anger and Coping with Fear are just some of the issues I encounter as we focus on developing trust, self-discovery, emotional release and integration. Working with families has always been central in my supporting not only children, but parents and teachers. Children's lives cannot be compartmentalised. Their emotions, behaviours. education and social interactions affect all areas of their lives.
Not only do I work with children but I also work with their parents/carers, teachers and families and other supporting Specialists. It's a struggle being a parent/carer sometimes, especially when all we really want is someone to be there to help guide us through the minefield that this often feels like.
Remember:
"It takes a village to raise a child". Let me be part of your village!
Teachers too, struggle, not only with their severely curriculum-packed days, but all those extra pressures put on them, dealing with large classes with many and varied students with their own challenges. It's no wonder they are leaving the system in droves. I was one of those teachers.
Other programmes in which I have been trained and had the privilege to use include:
Mary's Place of Wisdom is a place where you are encouraged to dig deep and find your own wisdom to help guide you in your journey.
At Mary's Place of Wisdom I offer CBT 'talk' therapy, artistic and expressive therapies, somatic (body-based) therapies, REIKI and Australian Bush Flower Essences.
Counselling may be a little daunting especially if you have never been before. However, it is an opportunity for you to be able to share your fears and worries to someone completely outside of your family and friends - someone who will treat you with respect, be non-jusgemental and open to your needs.
To help create mind/body balance on all levels - spiritually, emotionally and physically I may work with a combination of those therapies to suit each individual client in each session.
This may involve drawing, painting (you don't need to be able to draw or paint), sand tray, symbol work, puppets, drama etc. which help clients express those deeply-hidden emotions, fears or anxieties.
This works particularly well with children, and those who are neuro-diverse or with disabilities. Teenagers and adults too can see and experience just how transforming it can be.
I also offer small groups or workshops which gives you the opportunity to have a small taste of what's on offer. Maybe you'd like to organise a small group of friends and attend a workshop specifically designed just for you and your needs whether it be how to cope with family life, how to build stronger boundaries, what to do if you are totally exhausted etc.
